Government presses ahead with campaign for blood donations in Brazil

"Give Blood, Give Life". This is the campaign slogan adopted for blood donation used by the Brazilian Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). The campaign was launched during the National Seminar on the Management of Blood and Blood Products Policy, which took place in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais) on 14 to 16 December 2000.

The campaign, together with the promotion of Blood Donors Day, to be held on November 25 every year, focuses on increasing the population's awareness regarding the importance of donating blood in a responsible manner and on a regular, registered, basis (at least twice a year).

In addition to the above, a million folders are being distributed and 500,000 placards are being sent to all the blood banks with the campaign slogan, as seen below:

Donate blood, Donate life
Donating blood is safe. All material used in the collection of blood is disposable.
When donating blood, you will be guided and supervised by professional health experts
What is necessary to donate blood? You need to be between 18 and 60 years old, in good health, to weigh over 50kg, not to be fasting and to take along an identity document. Information is the key!
When you go to donate blood, do not forget to answer correctly the questions asked during the interview. Safe blood begins with the blood donor.
