Overview

The Brazilian Sanitary Surveillance Agency carries out health monitoring and enforcement procedures in airports in the following areas:

  • Aircraft;
  • Inspection of the airport apron (airport support vehicle)
  • Control of passengers/travelers;
  • Control of vectors which can transmit internationally notifiable diseases, (this to be effected in accordance with International Health Regulations)
  • Airport parking area.

Airports nowadays are places where large numbers of people and freight from all over the world are concentrated. As a result, transmissible diseases and other threats to public health and the environment can be introduced and spread.

Sanitary surveillance objectives in airports:

  • To avoid the spread of transmissible diseases, and minimize risks to the environment and to public health;
  • To guarantee satisfactory hygiene, health and sanitary conditions in the aircraft and the whole airport complex
