Product Quality
Registration
of the product is based upon approval of the actual specification
of the pesticide, which provides a guarantee that the data submitted
for analysis was the result of the employment of a chemical product
with the concentration and identity of that proposed for the purpose
of registration.
In other words, the marketed product should be in strict accordance
with the same specifications as those approved for registration.
Changes in temperature, storage conditions, packaging and other
factors can affect the quality of the pesticide, and certain changes
can result in more substantial risks or can undermine the product's
effectiveness (FAO,1988).
If there are any doubts concerning product quality, whether these
be about the technical product, the formula of the pesticide or
about the product on sale in the relevant sales outlets, random
samples should be submitted for laboratory analysis in order to
determine the quality of the product. Subsequent corrective measures
will depend on each case, but could include new labeling, changes
in the packaging of the product, a different formula, destruction
of the stock or any other action that is considered necessary in
the circumstances.
Batch analyses for legal purposes might be necessary, and official
laboratories must be in a position to elucidate the concentrations
of the active ingredients, the concentration and identity of all
the components of the formula, and to carry out physiochemical analyses,
analyses of packaging, stability tests and evaluate the appearance
of the product.
